| The “Thief”

A short story about the “thief” of moments. He is easy to catch, but hard to keep.

Sunday dawns.

Sunday, October 27.

The weather in Karpathos is amazing. It still feels like summer. Sunshine, a light breeze. Three friends visiting from Athens for the long weekend. Rania, Thanos, and Stefanos. Friends. Athletes. And Matina is with us too. All of the above point to one word: Long run.

I wake up. A bit of water, as always. I don’t do anything before I drink water when I wake up.

I grab my phone. Messages from yesterday, stories, posts, sports, news of the day. A message from the group to meet in 20 minutes. 20 minutes of scrolling, without even realizing it. I have the excuse of “making plans.”

We meet. We start running. It feels great. The time has changed, we have energy, joy, and motivation.

The phone is there again. First video and photo at 500 meters.

The long run ends. No need to say how many videos and photos were taken.

We finish. Commemorative photos. Not just one. Many. Photos of the juice, the coffee, the shoes—stories. We had a great time. Endorphins at their peak.

But… Did we really have a great time? Or did the “thief of moments” enjoy it more?

Imagine all of this without the thief. The thief is in the phone. But we are his accomplices.

It’s always us. We are responsible for everything.

Catch the thief and lock him up.
